In three polls in, one in 2004, 2008 and 2013, blueberries have steadily made gains to finally take #1 as America’s favorite berry. Other positive changes for the blueberry is that the awareness of the super-fruit’s health benefits has gained dramatically.
Across the board gains in the popularity of blueberries has been followed by an expanding US production market which has made blueberries a great value, especially during the season. Blueberry season typically runs from late May to September. This year’s crop was delayed due to weather in many parts of the country, but in the end, it was a good year. Frozen blueberries should be plentiful.
One thing nice about blueberries is that the are highly function in cooking whether fresh, frozen or dehydrated. Blueberries do not lose their super-fruit powers once preserved by freezing of drying!
