Four Easy Ways To Eat Blueberries Now

Quick Ideas for those blueberries in your freezer

Make room in your diet for all the fresh blueberries you can eat!
Chances are that blueberry lovers took advantage of the bargains on frozen blueberries and put back an excess last winter. With a bumper crop of blueberries expected, it is time to find ways to eat all those frozen berries fast and easy. Frozen blueberries lend themselves to production cooking, but are also a great quick food.

Easy, Fun, & Quick For Kids

Most of these quick ways to enjoy freezer-stored blueberries begin by putting 1 to 3 lbs of frozen blueberries in a storage container and allowing them to thaw.

#1 Add “Purple Power” To Breakfast Cereals!
Dress up healthier cereals with “purple power” by adding defrosted blueberries to the bottom of the bowl before you add cereal. Don’t tell them what is up until you pour in the milk! Hopefully you will see a big smile as the milk turns purple with blueberries. Add a touch of cinnamon to enhance the sweetness!

#2 Forget the Milk In the Cereal Altogether!
This idea is pretty simple, instead of milk in cereal, substitute a juicy blueberry mash. This is particularly tasty in higher end cereals. Don’t be stingy with the blueberries!

#3 Soak Those Toaster Waffles Purple!
How about an easy way to stretch a little real maple syrup and a few cups of blueberries into a family-sized breakfast compote for toaster waffles or pancakes? Put 3 cups of those defrosted (or frozen) blueberries and mix the with a 1/4 cup of real maple syrup in a microwave safe bowl. Heat the mixture for 2 minutes or until warm. Spread generously on your toaster waffles or pancakes! More is better in this case! Soak them purple!

#4 Dump the Soda For Blueberry Water!
It is no secret that the average person eats and drinks far too much sugar. Instead of soda make your own flavored water by adding your blueberry “runoff”. Add a touch of cinnamon or a mint leaf for additional flavor. Mix as you see fit.
(It doesn’t take much imagination to see how blueberry “runoff” would work well with fashionable adult cocktail beverages)
